Jean-Pierre
Tibi has scored award winning documentary and feature films,
since he moved to Los Angeles in 1987. His work with Oscar winner
directors Terry
Sanders and Freida
Lee Mock,
includes PBS Special "Slow Fire",
American Master "Lillian Gish"
which won an Emmy award, and "Into The Future".
Jean-Pierre
Tibi also
composed music for Oscar winner documentary director Jessica
Yu,
on such films as "A Town called Heinenville" and "Men
of Re-Enaction". |

the 1992 International Festival of New Music in Mexico City.

Jean-Pierre
Tibi's feature film work includes the score for the Oscar nominated
short feature film "Senzenina", directed by Bernard
Joffa and produced by Anthony Nicolas.

"The
Monkey Kid", a long feature film directed by
Xiao-Yen Wang and shot in China, gave the opportunity for
Jean-Pierre Tibi to write for Chinese traditional instruments.
His score, which brings together four traditional Chinese
instruments and a Western string ensemble, was performed
with virtuosity by soloists from the Beijing Opera Orchestra.
The film was in the section "Un
Certain Regard" at the Cannes
Festival in
1995. The music was nominated for the George
Delerue Award at the Ghent Film Music
Festival (in Belgium) in 1995.
Jean-Pierre
Tibi worked
again with Xiao-Yen Wang on her second feature
film "I
Am Seducible ",
shot in San Francisco and in China. The main role is played by
Chinese actress Qu
Ying,
who also sings the song "Translucent Blue" in the
film. The score, for Western chamber orchestra, was recorded in
Berkeley at the Fantasy
Studios. Among the musicians was pianist
Jerry
Kuderna, a regular player with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra.
STUDIES
Jean-Pierre
Tibi studied harmony, counterpoint and fugue at La
Schola Cantorum in Paris with professor Pierre
Doury, and composition and orchestration with Allain
Gaussin, and specific counterpoint studies with
Paris Conservatory professor Bernard de Crepy . He also
worked on Electro-Acoustic music composition, at the Groupe de
Recherche Musicales workshops (Ina-GRM, Paris), with Philippe
Mion. In Los Angeles, he earned a Master in composition
at UCLA
, where he studied with
Roger Bourland and Mexican composer Manuel
Enriquez.
Jean-Pierre Tibi studied also the Shakuhachi Japanese flute at
UCLA and privately with Master Masakazu
Yoshizawa.
Jean-Pierre
Tibi taught music theory and music history at the St. Lô Conservatory
of Music, in Normandy (1982-84), and produced music programs
on French National Radio (1984-85), before moving to the US in
1986. His music has been played in concert in France, in the US
and in Mexico.
